I’m so happy that you are reaching out for support. Identifying that you need and are ready for help is a huge first step in improving your life. I am Christina Rose Newell, a Washington state Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I am supportive, empathetic, and non-judgmental, bringing warmth and compassion to therapy, through collaboration.
My treatment approach uses art, creativity and expression. It combines strength-based therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and creative practices. I have a neurodegenerative disease and want to help you with understanding your chronic pain or chronic disease. As a person able to personally understand chronic disease and chronic pain I have a different ability to support. I want to be a part of your team and focus on your mental health. I am a member of a Mental Health Task Force at the NW Rare Disease Coalition, which recently launched a pilot program to showcase a variety of mental health resources available to the rare community. This program is designed to support rare disease patients, their families, and caregivers through an open calendar of free and virtual sessions and support groups. https://nwrare.org/#mentalhealth.
I want to ensure that you always feel comfortable and in charge of your therapy. We will work together to find the best approach to meeting your needs and finding your own strengths. I have used visual and written arts over the years for my own self-care. My job is to be supportive and offer ideas that may be useful.
I love using my clinical and life experience to support my clients to see situations from different perspectives. I was born and raised in Alaska, and was an art teacher for five years in the Last Frontier, then moved to Bellingham in 2008. I spent seven years as a child and family therapist, and five years as a clinical supervisor for a Community Mental Health Agency. I use a strength-based approach to most things in life including therapy. I spend my free time creating art and crafty projects.
